FORMER Mayor of Gwanda, Lionel De Necker (MDC) has died

Gwanda Residents Association condolence message on the passing on of former Mayor, Lionel De Necker,  of MDC .

Gwanda Residents Association receives with great grief the news on the passing on of former Mayor His Worship Lionel De Necker.

Councillor De Necker shall for long remain in the memories of the people of Gwanda for several attributes top of which is for emerging as the youngest mayor in the history of the town assuming mayorship at 32.

His Worship Councillor De Necker will also be remembered for his selfless and uncompromising service to the people of Gwanda which equivocally led to him being prematurely removed from the mayoral office by the Minister Of Local Government.

De Necker was that councillor who believed in never sacrificing on what he believed was in the best interest of his people.

Councillor De Necker may today rest peacefully knowing that in his term in office he led and left behind one of the best councils to emerge out of Gwanda. A council which was free of any corruption and ineptitude.

Being a child of Gwanda born and bred in Gwanda, Lionel always exhibited a very high love for his home town and of everyone and everything associated to Gwanda.

The death of Councillor De Necker has indeed left a huge cloud hanging over the people of Gwanda some of whom still had a hope of seeing the young De Necker pursue his political leadership and representation to greater heights and one day stand in the highest possible places standing for the people of Gwanda.

Lionel’s death is indeed a huge loss not only to the De Necker family he so dearly loved but also the entire Gwanda family.

May his great soul rest in eternal peace.
